New Learning

Of late I have been spending time reading Project Management Book of Knowledge to attempt PMP exam. I have 4 + years of experience now, but I have been so fortunate to work in diverse areas ranging from technical, pure functional and project management. I have worked on so many proposals and have converted most of them into tangible revenue. My team members like to work with me (I think so :-), my boss hates me at times but cannot ignore me due to my contribution and hence he likes me too. I have spent most of my time in client facing roles under the disguise of Business Analyst but mostly performing not just functional role but also in the areas of Project Management.
After spending brief time gaining the above said experience, I have understood that PMP exam provides you needed theoretical support during project execution but does not qualify you as a successful project manager. It requires lot of maturity and ability to handle things deftly to be a successful PM.
End of the day, certification is a glamor added to your profile and that is one of the few reasons why I am pursuing the course. Other reasons includes gaining knowledge on the unknown areas in project management, spend quality time apart from work and fun, fulfill the goals assigned to me in the appraisal and most importantly for the purpose of professional development.
